Rick Just traces his Idaho roots to the territory’s founding in 1863. Raised on an eastern Idaho ranch, he served as a Marine Corps information officer before earning degrees in English and Public Administration from Boise State University.
With 30 years at the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, Rick’s passion for the outdoors led him to co-create the Idaho State Parks Passport program. He’s a prolific writer, known for his daily history blog and 13 books on Idaho’s history.
Rick’s extensive civic involvement includes leadership roles in organizations like Boise City Planning and Zoning and Friends of Idaho State Parks. He was also appointed to the Bureau of Land Management Resource Advisory Council.

Incumbent Sen. Rick Just and former state Rep. Codi Galloway have combined to raise more than $244,000, with nearly a month to go before the election. That makes for an uncommonly spendy legislative race; the total fundraising, so far, translates to nearly $5.75 for every resident in the district.
