The Idaho Farm Bureau Federation is one of the state’s largest and most influential agricultural organizations, representing more than 76,000 farm and ranch member families across all of Idaho’s 44 counties. Founded in 1920, the Farm Bureau has been a consistent advocate for policies supporting agriculture, rural communities, water rights, and property rights at both the state and federal level for over a century. Matt Dorsey, elected as Idaho Farm Bureau president in December 2025, leads an organization that champions Idaho’s dairy, beef, potato, and hay production — all among the state’s top economic sectors. The organization’s political action arm engages in candidate endorsements and campaign contributions, typically supporting candidates who champion agricultural water rights, oppose burdensome environmental regulation, and prioritize rural infrastructure funding. With Idaho ranking as the nation’s leading potato producer and among the top three dairy states — with farm-gate dairy receipts of approximately $3.9 billion annually — the Farm Bureau’s policy priorities directly shape Idaho’s most economically significant industries. The organization works in close coordination with the Idaho Dairymen’s Association, Idaho Cattle Association, and Idaho Water Users Association on shared legislative priorities.
