About

In October 2023, the Ada County Republican Central Committee (ACRCC) underwent significant leadership changes. Chairman Victor Miller, along with five other top officials, resigned abruptly, citing irreconcilable differences with the Idaho Republican Party's direction under Chairwoman Dorothy Moon. The resigning members criticized the state party's shift towards stringent "purity tests," internal tribunals for candidate censure, and what they perceived as an oligarchic consolidation of power that undermined grassroots involvement. Following these resignations, Thad Butterworth assumed the role of Chairman. Under his leadership, the ACRCC initiated a comprehensive financial audit to address concerns raised about previous financial practices. The audit revealed issues such as inadequate financial policies, lack of multiple bids for significant expenditures, and discrepancies in financial reporting. While no fraudulent activities were identified, the findings highlighted the need for improved transparency and adherence to established financial protocols within the committee. This leadership transition reflects ongoing debates within the Idaho Republican Party regarding governance, financial accountability, and the balance between state and local party autonomy.

How the Idaho GOP Punishes Those Who Dare Ask Questions

The Idaho Republican Party once valued integrity, honesty, and transparency—principles that used to be at the core of conservative leadership in the state. But under Dorothy Moon and her Idaho Freedom Foundation-aligned allies, those values have been abandoned in favor of deception, deflection, and gaslighting. Instead of addressing legitimate concerns raised by local Republicans, Moon and her team deployed their tried-and-true playbook: discredit the source, shift the focus, and attack anyone who dares to demand accountability.

‘Impossible’ to lead: Ada County GOP leaders resign to protest state party’s ‘new oligarchy’

Six top members of the Ada County Republican Party, including its chairman, quit Thursday, citing decisions by the state party that have made it “impossible” to effectively lead. It’s the latest controversy pitting local party leaders against the divisive Idaho Republican Party chairwoman, Dorothy Moon, and her hard-right allies, who have effective control of the state party. An Ada County GOP news release recited a docket of grievances against the state party, including that it distrusts voters to select candidates and has created a “new oligarchy that values control” and “un-Republican” bullying tactics. Ada County Chairman Victor Miller touted the local party’s fundraising in recent years and successful GOP elections to county officer and school board seats.
