About
The Idaho Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (ICULAC) is the political action committee of the Idaho Credit Union League, the trade association representing Idaho's federally and state-chartered credit unions. Credit unions are member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperatives that serve millions of Idahoans, offering savings accounts, consumer and mortgage loans, auto financing, and other financial services with a cooperative rather than shareholder-oriented business model. ICULAC advocates before the Idaho Legislature on issues affecting credit union operations, including regulatory oversight, the cooperative tax-exempt structure, and expanded lending authority. The committee supports candidates who understand and champion the credit union cooperative model and who support policies allowing credit unions to effectively serve their members. Credit unions play an especially important role in rural Idaho communities and among lower-income households, serving markets that commercial banks sometimes underserve. Idaho's credit union sector includes major institutions such as Idaho Central Credit Union, the state's largest credit union with billions in assets and branches statewide.
