Kootenai County Republican Central Committee
About
The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC) is the official governing body of the Republican Party in Kootenai County, the northern Idaho panhandle's most populous county with Coeur d'Alene as its county seat. Chaired by Brent Regan, the KCRCC has become one of the most influential — and nationally noticed — county Republican organizations in Idaho, having shifted dramatically rightward since approximately 2018 under the leadership of America First activists. Dorothy Moon, who became Idaho Republican Party chairwoman in 2022, emerged from KCRCC leadership, making it the organizational model that the far-right grassroots faction has most successfully deployed at the county level. The KCRCC has pursued an aggressive strategy of candidate recruitment, precinct committeeman takeovers, and primary challenges against more moderate Republicans, earning coverage in national outlets as a model of grassroots county party capture. Under Regan's leadership, the committee has endorsed candidates opposing Medicaid expansion, supporting public lands transfer to state ownership, and opposing transgender policies in schools and sports. Kootenai County has become a significant destination for politically motivated migration from California, Washington, and other western states, fueling the KCRCC's activist base.
