Faye Thompson is a first-term Republican member of the Idaho House of Representatives representing District 8 Seat B, a four-county west-central Idaho district centered on McCall and Valley County. Thompson took office December 1, 2024 after defeating then-House Majority Leader Rep. Megan Blanksma by 221 votes in the May 21, 2024 Republican primary. She is seeking re-election in the May 19, 2026 Republican primary. The general election is November 3, 2026.

Background

Per her Idaho State Legislature official biography, Thompson has lived in McCall and Valley County for more than 50 years. She is retired, has been married 32 years to Neal Thompson, and has four children and eleven grandchildren. She currently chairs the Valley County Republican Central Committee. Her committee assignments include Business, Environment, Energy & Technology, and Health & Welfare.

Political Career

Thompson won the May 21, 2024 Republican primary against then-House Majority Leader Rep. Megan Blanksma 51.3 percent (4,361 votes) to 48.7 percent (4,140 votes), per Idaho Capital Sun coverage of the May 21, 2024 primary. In the November 5, 2024 general, Thompson defeated Democrat Jared Dawson 67.9 percent to 27.5 percent (Constitution Party candidate Tony Ullrich received 4.6 percent), 16,546 votes to 6,702. She took office December 1, 2024 as a first-cycle freshman.

Thompson's legislative record reflects close alignment with the Idaho Freedom Foundation policy stack. She has voted with the Idaho Freedom Caucus bloc on contested floor calls.

Thompson is running in the May 19, 2026 Republican primary. Per the Idaho Sunshine portal, her 2026 campaign is supported by approximately $353 in independent expenditures from Citizens Alliance of Idaho PAC. Idaho EdNews has reported that Citizens Alliance of Idaho PAC draws substantial out-of-state funding, including a $450,000 transfer from a Virginia-based federal affiliate and Pennsylvania gaming-related sources. Her 2024 campaign also received support from Young Americans for Liberty's Make Liberty Win field operation. The general election is November 3, 2026.
