Steve Bruno
District 3 House B
2024 Primary - won
Steve Bruno, a longtime resident of Kootenai County, is running for office with a mission to bring balance, fairness, and respect for personal freedom back to the Idaho Legislature. Having lived in the county for 44 years, owned local businesses, and served briefly as interim Chair of the local Democratic Party, Steve understands the values of his community and its concerns. He believes that governance should respect the personal boundaries of its citizens, and he’s particularly motivated to counter the rising influence of religious interpretation in legislative decisions. For Steve, imposing personal beliefs through law goes against the Founding Fathers’ intent for separation of church and state and risks alienating rather than uniting Idahoans. He also sees the need for a united voter base to resist political overreach and restore focus on the middle ground where most people’s values align.
Steve is equally committed to defending public education, believing that state funds and vouchers should not subsidize private schooling, which lacks the constitutional inclusivity and uniformity mandated for public institutions. He advocates for reproductive rights, arguing that personal medical decisions should remain private and free from legislative interference. Although he’s never held public office before, Steve feels compelled to step forward, driven by a desire to safeguard Kootenai County’s community values, uphold public institutions, and promote unity. He believes that lasting connections are built not by political divisions but by neighbors helping one another, and he hopes to carry this spirit into public service.

This country was built by immigrants. Some were forced here. Some came of their own free will. But with the exception of our Native American population, our descendants all pretty much showed up on a boat. That includes slave ships, steam ships and the Mayflower. Your ethnicity, your ancestry, the color of your skin? It’s irrelevant. You’re an immigrant.
