Jon Weber: Republican Nominee for Idaho House District 34 Seat A

Rep. Jon Weber, a three-term incumbent, is running unopposed for Idaho House District 34 Seat A in the November 3, 2026 general election. He also ran unopposed in the May 19, 2026 Republican primary, receiving 3,792 votes, according to certified Idaho Secretary of State results; no Democratic, independent, or write-in candidate filed for the seat.

Background

Weber was raised in Michigan and attended Ricks College and Utah State University, according to his official Idaho Legislature biography. He and his wife, Heather, owned and operated Circle of Love, a small business in Rexburg, for 30 years before selling it to their son. He served 12 years as a Madison County commissioner before his first legislative win, and has served on the boards of the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Beehive Federal Credit Union, and the Idaho Association of County Commissioners and Clerks, of which he is a past president. He and Heather have been married 34 years and have five children and seven grandchildren.

Legislative Record

Weber is vice chair of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee and also serves on Commerce and Human Resources and Local Government, per the Legislature's 2026 roster. He was the House floor sponsor of House Bill 533 (2026), which eliminated the requirement to display a vehicle registration sticker on license plates; it passed the House 67-2-1 and the Senate 31-4-0 and was signed into law by Gov. Little on March 2, 2026. He explained his reasoning to East Idaho News: "This came about this past summer when I registered a vehicle and was handed a sticker to put on my plate. And I got to thinking the purpose of the sticker and why do we do this." He added: "I further studied this out and realized that with modern technology and the use of real-time technology, that 100% of the time, law enforcement runs your plate and receives all the information they need on that vehicle."

An attack-dashboard run by a PAC called Weber a "75.5%" vote-with-Democrats legislator; an idahoextremism.org investigation built an alternative count directly from the official House and Senate journals and found Weber voted with the Republican majority 91.3% of the time (2,299 of 2,519 recorded votes, 2019–2026).

Background and Platform

In a 2020 Rexburg Standard Journal candidate profile, Weber said: "I've had the honor to serve Madison County, for 12 years, as a county commissioner and currently serve as the chairman... I enjoy getting to know and serve the people of Madison County." In a 2022 East Idaho News candidate questionnaire, he described his path to office: "I was raised in a hardworking, blue-collar, family in Michigan... After my mission, I attended Ricks College. I met my wife, Heather, who is from Rexburg, and we were married. We attended Utah State University. We have five children and seven grandchildren." Asked about Idaho's biggest challenge, he said: "Keeping pace with infrastructure and other services for one of the fastest growing states in the nation."

Electoral History

Weber first won the District 34 Seat A House seat in 2020, defeating Shane Ruebush in the Republican primary 3,392 votes to 3,140 (51.9%) before winning the general unopposed. In 2022, he defeated Jason "JD" Drollinger in the primary 2,825 votes to 2,274 (55.4%) and again ran unopposed in the general. He ran unopposed in both the primary and general in 2024, according to Idaho Secretary of State canvass records. Before serving in the Legislature, he was elected Madison County Commissioner in 2014 and 2016, both times without a general-election opponent.
