Natalie Fleming, independent candidate for U.S. Senator from Idaho
Natalie Fleming, an independent, is a candidate for U.S. Senator from Idaho in the November 3, 2026 general election. She filed on February 25, 2026, and the Idaho Secretary of State lists the filing as approved. According to the Secretary of State's election database, this is her fourth run for federal office in Idaho. Her opponents are Republican incumbent Jim Risch, independent Todd Achilles and Libertarian Matt Loesby.
Background
The Idaho Capital Sun's 2026 voter guide lists Fleming's age as 55, her occupation as "Software Developer, Supply Chain Specialist" and her years lived in Idaho as 30. In a CBS2/FOX9 candidate survey she wrote that at age 13 "our family moved to Moscow, Idaho, where my father taught World Religions at the University of Idaho."
The Spokesman-Review reported in 2020 that she graduated from Moscow High School in 1989, "has worked for 30 years as a software developer and designer of data" management systems, and has four adult children. East Idaho News reported in May 2022 that she had not held elected office.
Earlier campaigns
According to the Idaho Secretary of State's election database, Fleming ran as an independent in the November 6, 2018 election for U.S. House District 1. She received 6,188 of 315,069 votes and finished third. Republican Russ Fulcher won with 197,719 votes.
She ran as an independent in the November 3, 2020 election for U.S. Senate. She received 25,329 of 859,827 votes and finished third. Risch won with 538,446 votes.
In the May 17, 2022 Republican primary for U.S. Senate, she received 16,902 of 265,002 votes and finished fifth of five candidates. Sen. Mike Crapo won with 177,906 votes. The Secretary of State's candidate page lists her record as no wins in three contests.
Party labels
The Secretary of State's records list her as an independent in 2018 and 2020, as a Republican primary candidate in 2022 and as an independent in 2026. The Spokesman-Review described her and Constitution Party candidate Ray Writz in 2020 as "two self-described conservatives who say the Republican Party has lost its way."
In the 2026 CBS2/FOX9 survey, Fleming wrote: "I run as an independent because I owe both parties' donors exactly nothing."
Campaign finance filings
The Federal Election Commission's 2026 Idaho Senate candidate listing shows $0.00 in receipts and $0.00 in disbursements for Fleming. Her committee, Natalie M Fleming for US Senate, lists her as treasurer.
The committee's filings page showed no regularly filed reports for 2025 and 2026 on October 2, 2026. It listed a statement of organization and a one-page submission, both filed June 20, 2025. The submission says: "Please reactivate this committee for the 2026 federal election cycle. There has been no financial activity to date and there are no cash on hand, debts, or outstanding obligations to report."
The Spokesman-Review reported in 2020 that she had "not reported fundraising numbers to the Federal Election Commission," and noted that the commission requires reporting once a campaign raises at least $5,000. The same May 2022 report said that of the four challengers to Crapo, only Scott Trotter and Ramont Turnbull submitted the required April quarterly campaign finance report.
Positions
At the September 30, 2026 candidate forum in Caldwell, which Risch did not attend, the Idaho Capital Sun reported that Fleming called the trade war with Canada "mind-boggling" and said tariffs should be rolled back. She said: "We all know that we have some wonderful immigrants who are building our homes and are providing food for us." She said: "We have become the aggressors overseas. So it is Congress's role to stop this, and they're just kind of a lame duck Congress not doing anything to stop any of this."
In her answers in the Idaho Capital Sun's voter guide, she wrote: "I oppose the SAVE Act." She wrote: "I will not cut Social Security benefits or raise the retirement age. Full stop." On health care she wrote that direct primary care "gets healthcare right at a fraction of the cost" and that she would expand it nationally.
Polling
A June 6 and 7, 2026 poll of 500 likely voters by Peak Insights, which Risch's campaign released in a memo, showed Fleming at 5%, Risch at 55%, David Roth at 15%, Achilles at 7% and Loesby at 2%.
